‘Our goal is to choose public transport instead of private cars’: Dangol

Kathmandu. Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol said that the main goal of KMC is to reduce the use of private vehicles and make public transport the first choice.

During separate meetings and discussions with organizations, experts and officials of the concerned bodies working for the development and improvement of public transport systems, acting chief Dangol stressed the need of carrying out activities through participatory and partnership mechanism.

In a discussion held on Sunday, she said, “There is a lot of crowd in the vehicles that are not available when they return home after work. In such a situation, girls and women have to face extreme abuse. These problems should not be corrected immediately. ’

She clarified that KMC was open to hold discussions with experts and stakeholders from the planning phase with the goal of making Kathmandu’s public transport system state-of-the-art, integrated, easy, safe and reliable.

In a discussion with the World Bank representative on Sunday, acting chief Dangol stressed the need of developing public transportation system as per the local needs and situation. ’

On the same day, I also had a meeting with Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Capital Urban Area Public Transport Council, Kuber Nepali. The meeting discussed the works carried out by the Council so far, the plans prepared and the future course of action. On the occasion, discussions were held on various topics including GIS service, smart traffic monitoring system, integrated application, data collection and data collection and route management, among others.

Earlier, discussions were held with officials of Sajha Yatayat regarding the service connecting Patan Hospital to various major hospitals and the possibility of operating night electric bus service from Kalanki to Tribhuvan International Airport via Tripureshwor, Maitighar, Baneshwor.

Chief Administrative Officer of KMC, Saroj Guragain, traffic expert Jagatman Shrestha and other officials gave feedback during the discussions.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has given priority to the operation and management of environment-friendly and passenger-friendly public transport. Cashless integrated transportation system based on information technology, real time information delivery system, construction of bus stops and public toilets, pedestrian, disabled and cyclist-friendly road management have been taken as the challenge for the campaign.
