Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: All four security bodies including the Nepal Army (NA) have been mobilized in a free, fair, fair and fear-free manner for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives.
Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal and National Investigation Department have been mobilized in an integrated manner as per the Election Integrated Security Plan-2082 approved by the government.TAG_OPEN_p_17 Meanwhile, security arrangements have been further strengthened and made effective targeting the elections scheduled for March 4.
As per the integrated security plan, Nepal Police and Election Police will guard the inner circle of the polling stations while the second fence will be taken by the Armed Police Force (APF).TAG_OPEN_p_16 The Nepal Army will take the main responsibility of the outer security cordon. The Nepal Army has been mobilized in all the 165 electoral constituencies from today.
President Ram Chandra Poudel had on November 24 approved the deployment of the Nepal Army for election security as per the recommendation of the Prime Minister and the decision of the Council of Ministers.TAG_OPEN_p_15
According to Nepal Army Spokesperson and Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet, a NA base would be set up as per the need and joint patrolling would also be conducted.TAG_OPEN_p_14 The army is preparing to mobilize around 80,000 personnel for the election.
According to the security plan, security arrangements will be made in three phases: before, on the day of the election and after the election.TAG_OPEN_p_13 The Nepal Army will look after the pre-election printing and transportation of ballot papers, from the security of the polling booths and ballot boxes to the security of the vote counting centres. The army will also be deployed for the security of sensitive structures including airports and prisons.
A total of 23,TAG_OPEN_p_12 112 polling stations have been set up at 10,967 polling stations across the country. A total of 3,406 candidates are contesting in the election. According to the Election Commission, there are a total of 1,8903,689 voters, of which 92,40,131 are female, 96,63,358 are male and 200 are third gender voters.
A total of TAG_OPEN_p_11 2,845 polling stations have been categorised as normal, 4,442 as sensitive and 3,680 as very sensitive. Security arrangements have been made accordingly.
The Nepal Police will mobilize 77,000 human resources while 133,TAG_OPEN_p_10 000 election police have been recruited due to the shortage of human resources. The Armed Police Force (APF) will mobilize a total of 49,686 personnel, including 34,576 and 15,110 election police.
The security agencies have said that high alertness has been maintained to prevent any untoward incident during the election and arrangements have been made to reach the incident site within 10 minutes in case of emergency.TAG_OPEN_p_9
