Kathmandu. The Election Commission (EC) has disqualified 76 candidates from the closed list submitted by the political parties under the proportional representation system in view of the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 4.
The EC has removed the names of the candidates from the list who did not meet the legal criteria, included duplicate names and were disqualified due to financial and administrative reasons.
According to the Election Commission, the names of 21 of those removed have been blacklisted in the Credit Information Centre while 25 have been found to be in the closed list of provincial assembly members.
Likewise, 10 people who did not pay the fine, four who did not attain the age of 25 and one person who did not appear in the voters’ list were also disqualified.
Similarly, there are two candidates from backward regions who do not fall under the quota, one male candidate has been submitted instead of female candidate and 10 candidates who have been removed from the list at the request of the concerned political party. According to the commission, the number of candidates disqualified on more than one reason is 2.
The Election Commission has said that the closed list will be finalized by strictly following the law.
