. More than one thousand queries have been received in the call center operated by the Election Commission. A total of 1,677 queries were received at the call centre that the commission has been operating since January 1.
According to EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, 906 of them are related to voters’ list.TAG_OPEN_p_9 Likewise, 135 queries were received related to election code of conduct, 61 related to voter education and 575 related to other subjects.
Spokesperson Bhattarai said that surveillance has been intensified to crack down on false or misleading information and hate expressions that violate the election code of conduct.TAG_OPEN_p_8 According to him, a plan has been forwarded to bring the individuals and institutions involved in illegal activities under the legal ambit in collaboration with the concerned regulatory body.
According to the commission, 120 content producers and communicators who produce or disseminate harmful information have been sent to the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police for action as per the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063.TAG_OPEN_p_7 Similarly, 6 have been sent to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority as per the Telecommunication Authority Act, 2052.
Likewise, 15 have been sent to the Press Council Nepal for action as per the Press Council Act, 2048 BS while 34 have been sent to the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee for action as per the Election Code of Conduct, 2082.TAG_OPEN_p_6
The EC has also held discussions with the private sector to make electoral education effective.TAG_OPEN_p_5 The Voter Education Unit under the Election Information Communication and Coordination Center has so far approved 158 materials and made it public through the official Facebook and X, TikTok and YouTube.
