Corruption case against Madhes Province lawmaker Singh to be heard

. The hearing on the corruption case filed against 16 persons including suspended lawmaker Saroj Kumar Singh of Madhes Province is to begin. A division bench of Justices Narayan Prasad Poudel and Bidur Koirala has assigned the hearing on the case.

Singh, who is also a former state minister of Madhes Province, has been charged with a claim of Rs 38,TAG_OPEN_p_9 50,319. According to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Singh has been accused of misappropriating the amount deposited in the accounts of the users’ committee through his personal secretary Binod Kumar Lal Kayastha and depositing it in the joint account of his wife Sarita Kumari Mahato.

The corruption case has been filed against Ramesh Madar, Amlesh Kumari, Deeparaj Devi Rajput, Bhikhari Raut Kurmi, Bhupendra Kumar Jha, Manju Devi Pasman, Ramnath Sahni, Sanjnu Devi, Ram Sharan Khatwe, Vibhadevi Khatwe, Shambhu Kumar Mandal, Yoginder Mahato, Sunaina Kumari, Yamuna Prasad Mahato and Kaushilya Devi.TAG_OPEN_p_8

According to the CIAA, commission has been found to have been taken for the construction of dharamshalas, temple beautification and road upgradation projects run through various consumer committees.TAG_OPEN_p_7 A case has also been filed against the chairperson and treasurer of the consumer committee of the scheme.

According to the CIAA’s charge sheet, Singh has taken an average of 28.25 percent commission from the budget allocated under the State Assembly Member Constituency Development Programme in the fiscal year 2078/79 from the projects being implemented in various wards of Ramgopalpur Municipality, Manarashisawa Municipality and Samsi Rural Municipality of Mahottari.TAG_OPEN_p_6

According to the CIAA, out of the total Rs TAG_OPEN_p_5 1,26,27,481 deposited in Laxmi Sunrise Bank in the name of consumer committees, Rs 38,50,319 was transferred to Singh’s joint account.
