Kathmandu. The Bodebarsain Municipality Health Department of Saptari district has published a report of a door-to-door campaign to detect diabetes. The health department conducted the camp using analyzer technology. As per the report, 1,602 people from all 10 wards of the municipality were screened for diabetes. Of them, 819 were female and 783 were male. Of them, 360 were diagnosed with diabetes, according to health section coordinator Baijanath Sah.

According to him, 103 people in the age group of 10 to 40 years have been found to have diabetes. The health department had conducted diabetes check-up from January 7 to January 23 with an objective of strengthening the health condition of the people and reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases. Aatesh Kumar Singh, mayor of Bodebarsain Municipality, said that the condition of diabetes among the youths is serious. “It’s a very worrying situation. Now, like other diseases, we have to worry about diabetes,” he said.

Health Section Coordinator Sah said that this worrisome situation has been created due to the changing food habits. In such a situation, it is even more important to detect the problem at the beginning. “The programme has been launched keeping in mind the past experiences of many people losing their lives untimely due to lack of timely health information”, he said, adding, “We have introduced this programme to prevent the disease from falling ill and to detect it at an early stage.” The problem of diabetes came to the fore while running this program. ’

Apart from diabetes check-up, the health section has also been providing health check-up and counseling and sensitization services to senior citizens, children and adolescents by reaching door-to-door health check-up, said coordinator Saha.
