। Although the District Administration Office has claimed that the supply of LP gas for cooking is easy, consumers in Bhaktapur are still not able to get gas easily. Consumers who have been waiting for gas for months are forced to go to shops and dealers for a full cylinder.
Sabina Bohju, a local of Bhaktapur, said that she has not been able to get gas in her house for three months. Earlier, Udd had received only a half-filled cylinder, but since then he has not been able to get another cylinder.
Udkod said that he has heard that gas is easily available in the market, but he has not received it yet. “I am still wandering in search of gas. I can’t even go from the gas dealer to the retailer. When I call, they say that there is no gas in the market,” Udled said, “They say that gas is easy in the market, but where will consumers like us get it?”
He said that he also faced problems when he tried to arrange another cylinder as he was running out of gas cylinders. He complained that he did not get any help when he requested the seller if he could get gas by exchanging the cylinder with another company even after paying some extra charges.
Another consumer, Sunil Duwal, is also facing the same problem as Sabina. She said that even after a long time of registering her name in the shop for gas, she has not been able to get a cylinder.
“Even if you ask the moneylender of the gas shop, he says that he will inform you when the gas arrives. It has been months, but we have not received it yet,” she said, “We did not say that we should buy it by paying money, give it for free. What is the situation when you do not get a cylinder even after paying money?”
He said that even though the information about the supply of gas is being made public in the government agencies and social media, the consumers are not getting the gas. He questions where the gas is being distributed and why it is not reaching the real consumers.
For the families who depend on gas for daily cooking, the lack of it has affected household chores. Consumers say that due to lack of gas, they are unable to cook food on time and have to arrange alternative fuel. Especially for families who have been using the same cylinder for a long time, it is difficult to arrange another immediately after running out of gas.
Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, Binod Kumar Khadka, claimed that the supply of gas has become easy in the district. He said that if one company does not get gas, consumers can get gas from another company’s dealer by exchanging cylinders.
He said that before Dashain, the District Administration Office had been making public information through social media about which company’s gas was being distributed where and when. He said that such information was stopped because it was thought that the supply of gas would be easy after Dashain.
Although the administration claims that the supply is easy, consumers are complaining that they are not able to get gas. There is confusion among the consumers due to the lack of coordination between the administration’s claim and the real situation in the market.
If the supply has been easy, then the question has been raised as to why the consumers who are waiting for gas are not getting it. The problem seems to have become more complicated as clear information about the availability and distribution of gas has not reached the consumers.
