Kathmandu. The Ministry of Education and Sports has allocated Rs 6.54 billion for the improvement of physical infrastructure of 109 community schools with more than 2,000 students.

At a time when students’ attraction to community schools is increasing, the government has forwarded the plan for infrastructure development by giving priority to big schools with the objective of making the educational environment more systematic and effective.

According to Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel, Rs 5.34 billion has been released for 89 schools in the first phase of the budget allocated for the current fiscal year. The amount will be used to construct a 12-room, three-storey building in the school. Minister Pokharel said that modern classrooms, laboratories and libraries will be arranged in the building which is estimated to cost about Rs 60 million per school. He said that this will help in providing a safe and quality learning environment to the students.

Minister Pokharel said that the infrastructure improvement has been initiated bearing in mind the increasing flow of students in some community schools while there was a shortage of students in some schools.

“It is a matter of happiness that there is a high pressure of students in some community schools, while we are equally aware of the fact that some schools are going through a shortage of students. To bridge this disparity between schools, we have now started improving the infrastructure from big schools,” he said.

He also pledged to equally strengthen the quality of education and physical infrastructure of all community schools in the coming days.

Saying collaboration of teachers, guardians and students was needed to improve the quality of education in the community, the Education Minister called for joining hands for transformation of education sector.
