Budhigandaki flood swept away concrete bridge linking Dhading and Gorkha

Kathmandu. The floods in the Budhigandaki River in Gorkha have reached Dhading. The flood has washed away the concrete bridge connecting Dhading and Gorkha and eroded the fields and land on the banks of the river.

Chief District Officer Laxmi Pandey Gautam said that no human casualty has been reported in Dhading so far.

Talking to Nepal News Bank, Gautam said that all security personnel have been mobilized in the district after receiving information about the flood.

According to her, the people at risk were shifted to safer places by disseminating information through miking and social networking sites in coordination with the local levels.

“After receiving the information about the flood, we have mobilized all the security personnel. All the citizens have been taken to safer places by the local municipalities by miking and publicizing through social media,” she said.

According to him, the road connectivity between Gorkha and Chitwan has been affected after the flood swept away the concrete bridges linking Dhading and Gorkha.

“All the connections to Chitwan and other places including Gorkha were cut off after the bridge was washed away,” she said.

She said that big rocks along with mud have been washed away in the flood. “The flood has come big. Rocks as big as a house have been washed away with mud,” she said.

Gautam also informed that the flood has crossed Dhading and merged with the Trishuli River. According to him, the flow of floods is decreasing and increasing again.

She said that although there has been erosion in the fields and land on the banks of the river in Dhading, there are no reports of any other major physical damage. She said that in Gorkha, preliminary information has been received that the floods have also swept away the settlements and the latest situation there could not be contacted.

The District Administration Office has continued with security alertness and rescue preparations in view of the possible risks.
