KATHMANDU: Activist Ajay Sodari has objected to the ruling Rastriya Samajwadi Party (RSP) lawmaker Khagendra Sunar for making indecent allegations and exerting pressure on the Nepal Police and the organization’s leadership.
Issuing a press release today, Sodari said that it is condemnable that the entire police organization and leadership are being insulted, threatened and intimidated by the lawmakers holding prestigious positions of people’s representatives.
Terming such acts as ‘bullying in the garb of power’, he said that the silence of the government and the ruling party even when the police leadership has been publicly accused has raised serious questions.
“There are established procedures, procedures and legal provisions for investigation to find out the truth on any subject,” the statement reads, adding, “However, to publicly accuse lawmakers as investigators and judges by ignoring established procedures is a challenge to the rule of law and justice system.” ’
Reminding that the post of parliamentarian is not a means to intimidate anyone or show power, but to raise the voice of the people and maintain the dignity of the institutions of the state, Sodari stressed that the people’s representatives should show restraint and accountability in their speeches. He said that the professionalism, autonomy and efficiency of the police have been compromised due to political pressure and interference in recent times.
Campaigner Sodari urged Sunar to immediately stop using indecent language and exerting pressure on the police organization and leadership.
Stating that no one was above the law, he demanded the concerned body to take action against the police chief or any other official by conducting an impartial and independent investigation as per the established legal process.
However, Sodari said that no one has the right to defamate the institution and influence the legal process in the pretext of raising questions.
