Kathmandu. The government is preparing to amend two acts to register the deaths of the people who went missing in the floods of Bhotekoshi.
Home Secretary Kedar Nath Sharma has said that the government has forwarded a proposal to amend two acts to legalize the process of registering the death of the people disappeared in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river areas on August 26.
Addressing the Parliamentary Special Committee on Climate Change Impact, Climate Justice and Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Disaster at Singha Durbar today, Home Secretary Sharma said although some challenges were seen in the rescue operation in the initial phase of disaster due to geographical complexities and adverse conditions, effective works were being carried out with the coordinated efforts of the government mechanisms, security bodies and local levels.
Regarding the reconstruction, he said that the National Planning Commission’s ‘Rapid Damage and Need Assessment’ has estimated a loss of Rs 723 billion for the time being.
Home Secretary Sharma said that this incident of disaster was the most horrific and unimaginable loss that Nepal had experienced so far and it has also raised question on government’s preparedness capacity.
