Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to import 1,154 MW of electricity from India to facilitate power supply in the coming dry season.
Speaking at a press conference organized in Kathmandu on Friday, Executive Director of NEA Dirgha Kumar Shrestha said that NEA is planning to import electricity in order to maintain balance between demand and supply during the dry season.
According to him, a total of 2,372 MW of electricity is expected to be available during the dry season, including domestic production and import. In the dry season of the previous fiscal year, the peak of national power demand was 2,292 MW.
Executive Director Shrestha said that 430 MW of electricity has been out of the power generation system due to floods in Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on August 26. It is estimated that the floods have caused damages worth about Rs 74 billion to the structures of NEA and subsidiary companies.
Executive Director Shrestha said that work would be forwarded to remove the silt accumulated in the tunnel and the powerhouse in the project after completion of search and rescue works.
