KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party leader Gyan Bahadur Shahi has accused the incumbent government of misusing state power to exchange personal egos.
Talking to media persons in the premises of the Federal Parliament on Monday, he said the arrests violating the rules and procedures have tarnished the image of the government.
“It does not mean that no person should be arrested, but the legal basis and the arrest warrant of the court should be mandatory while arresting. Arresting at 3 am without evidence and leaving behind is just childish stubbornness. The accused in the Rs 9 billion scam, GB Rai, the wide-body scam, the culprits of 4G and Ncell are walking free,” he said.
Lawmaker Shahi raised the issue of arrest of former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR and businessman Durga Prasain, arguing that it was a mockery of the rule of law.
“The government is using power only for personal vendetta. There is no difference between yesterday’s government and today’s government. The way you have started the game of arrest to exchange egos, tomorrow the people will demand an account for it,” he said.
Shahi suggested the government to move ahead on the path of good governance and pledged that his party would support the government if it took real steps against corruption.
