KATHMANDU: Four people have been confirmed dead in an avalanche that occurred at Himlung Mountain in Manang district on Sunday.
The search for the missing has been intensified since Monday morning. The bodies of two of the deceased have been brought to Kathmandu while the bodies of the other two have been brought to the district headquarters of Manang, said Chief District Officer Mukti Prasad Khanal.
Although 11 people said to have reached the district headquarters safely, the number of people missing in the avalanche is estimated to be around 10, Khanal said.
Rescue teams have been deployed to the area by helicopter and updates will be provided by Monday afternoon, he said.
According to Chief District Officer Khanal, two bodies were sent to Kathmandu Teaching Hospital for postmortem on Monday morning and the bodies of two have been kept at the district headquarters.
Workers from Himalayan Holidays Company and Exportation Company have been involved in the construction of the base camp and rope fixing.
