Kathmandu. Due to the low pressure system developed in the Bay of Bengal, 21 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides in different parts of the country following heavy and extremely heavy rains from September 22.
According to a statement issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 5 people have gone missing and 5 have been injured in the rain-related disaster. 747 families have been directly affected by this natural disaster.
The NRA said that all government agencies have been mobilized for disaster response. About 2,000 people have been relocated to safer places from the affected districts that are at high risk of floods and landslides. Necessary relief and arrangements have been made for the rescued people in coordination with the local level and the district administration office.
According to the NRA, helicopters of the Nepal Army and security forces were deployed in Jajarkot, Myagdi and Baglung to rescue people trapped in floods and landslides. Based on the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the Authority had issued updated information and alert messages three times a day. Weather monitoring, coordination and information was disseminated continuously for 76 hours from 9 am to 1 pm on September 22 from the situation room of the NEA.
During this period, more than 5,000 alert SMSes were sent to the frontline rescue workers and 8.14 lakh alert messages were sent to the residents of the vulnerable areas through the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. In addition, an alert was also issued in English for the safety of about 9,000 foreign tourists and trekkers in different parts of the country. Instructions were given to stop the movement of vehicles on the risky road sections and school holidays were given in the affected districts.
In the last four days, more than 100 mm of rain has been recorded at 186 rain gauge stations across the country. Of these, the highest rainfall of 544.2 mm has been recorded in Dedgaon of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East). Rainfall has been measured. Similarly, Panchase of Kaski received 500.2 mm. And Atraulitar of Tanahun received 472 mm. Rainfall has been recorded, according to the statement of the authority.
