Kathmandu. The water flow in the Koshi River through the Koshi Barrage is increasing due to incessant rainfall in the eastern hilly and Terai districts. According to the measurement conducted at 1:15 pm on Friday, the flow of water flowing through the Koshi Barrage is 229,960 cusecs per second, said Sunsari Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Bahadur Khadka.
According to him, 30 out of 56 gates, including 52 main gates of the Koshi Barrage and four of the canals, were opened after the water level increased.
According to the Koshi Barrage Control Room, red beacons have been lit at the Koshi Barrage as a warning sign and red flags have also been hoisted.
According to the control room, the water level in the river is being continuously monitored.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Khadka said that security personnel have been miking the residents of the coastal areas around the Koshi and vulnerable settlements to adopt high alertness with the rise in the river level. Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Ishwari Prasad Aryal, said that the water level in the river has been increasing continuously and the people have been urged to remain alert.
CDO Aryal said that the general public have been urged not to go to the river in view of the risk of timber coming from Dahatar-Bahtar to collect firewood when the water level in the river is rising.
According to the special weather bulletin issued by the Nepal Meteorological Department, there is possibility of rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty wind at some places of Koshi Province until Sunday, September 27.
