Kathmandu. A total of 338 trucks and containers have gone missing in the floods in Timure of Rasuwa district on August 23.
As per the details provided by the Federation of Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Nepal to the Department of Transport Management, 441 drivers, helpers and entrepreneurs have gone out of contact along with the vehicles.
While collecting details of the human and physical damage caused by the Bhotekoshi floods, the Department of Transport Management had sought data from government and non-governmental organizations, private organizations, media, researchers and stakeholders. The department had issued a notice on September 18 asking them to provide details of the damage within seven days.
Following the department’s request, the Federation of Truck Transport Entrepreneurs of Nepal sent the preliminary damage details to the department on September 5. The federation has provided the details collected from various member associations, committees and companies to the department.
Federation President Rajendra Bikram Baniya said the cargo vehicles and the people involved have gone out of contact after the floods occurred in the Timure area on August 23 morning.
He said the FNCCI has sent the details received from the member organisations after the Department of Transport Management urged it to collect exact details of the damage.
According to the details, 217 trucks and containers belonging to Nepal Truck Container Transport Service Pvt Ltd, Lokanthali and 251 drivers, helpers and businessmen are out of contact. According to the report, 58 trucks and containers and 78 people from Narayani Transport Entrepreneurs Association Hetauda, 21 vehicles and 35 vehicles from Terai Transport Entrepreneurs Association Simara, and 10 containers and 20 people from Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Association Nepal, Balkhu are out of contact.
Similarly, 21 trucks and containers belonging to Gandaki Truck Entrepreneurs Association Pokhara and 11 containers and 22 others of Western Regional Transport Entrepreneurs Committee Butwal are out of contact.
Arjun Bahadur Sapkota, president of Nepal Truck Container Entrepreneurs Association, said the number of people and vehicles missing could go up as more details are being collected.
FNCCI President Baniya said that the details received from the Federation were preliminary and the details would be incorporated if further data were released.
The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has formed a committee to prepare a report along with suggestions on the assessment of human and physical damages in the public transport sector, basis for compensation and other issues as per the decision of a meeting held on September 12 under the chairmanship of the Minister for Infrastructure Development.
Urging the organizations to provide data on the damage caused by the disaster, the organizations should disclose their identity and provide the data source if possible.
As per the request, the FNCCI has collected details from the associations and committees under it and sent it to the department.
