Kathmandu. Lawmaker of the Labour and Culture Party, Aryan Rai, has said that the government should take serious initiatives to identify the reasons for the increasing cases of depression and self-immolation among the youths.

Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, lawmaker Rai expressed tribute to the youths who set themselves on fire in a bus in Tripureshwor and said the latest incident has raised serious questions about the government.

“First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt tribute to the youths who set themselves on fire by setting a bus on fire in Tripureshwor yesterday,” he said.

Rai questioned the fact that the damaged structures could not be reconstructed even after the huge damage caused during the Jenji movement. He said that it is a serious matter that the youths who have agitated for a new future are still disappointed.

“In a situation where young people have agitated so much to forge a new future, but look, there is despair in everyone,” he said.

Stating that cases of self-immolation have started appearing in recent times, he said that such incidents could be only representative of the cases seen outside.

“Yesterday, a motorcyclist brother self-immolated, yesterday a bus driver self-immolated, and these are just visible characters, how many are there who are not seen?” he asked.

Lawmaker Rai said that the government should seriously study the reasons for the frustration among the youths and the general public. He stressed the need to study the policy problems, problems related to traffic police, incidents of self-immolation and suicide, and the condition of roads and physical infrastructure from different angles.

He said, “Where did we make your mistakes, where are our problems, are there policy problems? What are the problems? At least I want the government to take special initiatives in this regard. ’

Rai said that the government has four questions regarding yesterday’s incident. According to him, there is a need to study whether the first is a policy problem or not, the second should be a thorough investigation if it is related to the traffic police, the third should be studied why the incidents of self-immolation and suicide are taking place and the fourth is to seriously review the condition of roads, social infrastructure and physical development.
