Kathmandu. The government has started printing driving licenses through the Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System (EDL VRS) that came into effect from July 17.
The Department of Transport Management under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development has adopted this new technology to solve the problem related to excessive pressure of service seekers and the complex problem related to the printing of licenses that have been pending for a long time.
With the implementation of this new system, the entire process of obtaining a new license and renewing an old one is expected to be faster, smoother and more tech-friendly.
The details of the subscribers entered in the EDL VRS will be sent directly to the security printing center.
After the printing is completed, arrangements have been made to send it to the concerned Transport Management Service Offices through postal service.
It is claimed that this provision will reduce the delays seen in printing and distribution for a long time.
In the first phase, 3,081 driving licenses have been printed in Madhesh Province and sent to the concerned offices for distribution, according to the Department.
Under the new system, provincial governments will be able to print licenses on their own by entering into an agreement with security printing.
According to the same provision, Madhesh Province has started printing under its own management. Meanwhile, the Lumbini Province government has also started the printing process by signing an agreement on Friday.
Officials of the department say that if the provincial government does not sign the agreement, the printing will be done in direct coordination with the Department of Transport Management and the security printing keeping in mind the convenience of the service seekers.
