Kathmandu. The United States Department of State has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property due to the devastating flash floods in Rasuwa district of Nepal. <\/p>\n
“The United States stands with Nepal in this hour of disaster,” the ministry spokesperson said in a press release. <\/p>\n
The U.S. government has announced that it will provide $500,000 (more than $66 million) to the flood-affected communities immediately. The money will be used by Catholic Relief Services to provide emergency housing, relief materials, drinking water, sanitation, and sanitation assistance. <\/p>\n
The U.S. State Department also said it would deploy a “disaster response adviser” to the region to monitor the aftermath of the flooding and support relief and recovery efforts. <\/p>\n
“The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu is coordinating closely with local authorities regarding the safety of our citizens in flood-affected areas,” the statement said. <\/p>\n
US citizens needing emergency assistance are urged to contact the embassy’s email or designated hotline numbers. <\/p>\n
The embassy also advised US citizens in the area to follow local news closely, follow local authorities, and join the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for emergency information. <\/p>\n
