Kathmandu. The government has intensified its homework to reduce electricity tariffs. <\/p>\n
The committee was formed on July 3 at the proposal of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has started homework to provide electricity to consumers and industries at subsidized rates. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a meeting of the committee formed under the convenorship of NEA Board of Directors Anshu Kiran Shahi is taking place today. The committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), energy experts, consumers and financial experts. <\/p>\n
The meeting will be held at 4:00 pm at the ministry to discuss ways to reduce electricity tariff. Coordinator Shahi said that the tariff is being reviewed to increase internal consumption in view of the fact that electricity produced during the rainy season is being wasted. <\/p>\n
Stating that the NEA is facing monthly loss due to wastage of electricity during the rainy season, he pledged to provide electricity to consumers and industries at subsidized rates through seasonal tariff. <\/p>\n
According to Shahi, who is also a member of the board of directors, preparations are being made to provide concessions to the industries. Coordination is also being made to make electricity cheaper for the industries during the rainy season and how cheaply they can give the goods they produce to the consumers. <\/p>\n
