Kathmandu. The country’s electricity system has been exporting surplus energy to India to meet the demand from domestic production. According to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the peak demand in the evening (peak hour) has reached 3,248 MW and the total daily demand is 73,629 MWh of energy. <\/p>\n
According to NEA, India did not have to import any electricity during the period and 22,102 MWh of electricity was exported. The private sector is the largest contributor to electricity generation. <\/p>\n
The private power producers supply 47,563 MWh of energy to NEA’s electricity system. NEA has been generating 8,959 MW hours of electricity from its own projects while 17,108 MW hours through its subsidiary companies. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, power supply has not been disrupted in any part of the country due to rainfall since the beginning of monsoon, NEA said. According to NEA, technical repair teams have been kept on standby round the clock at the offices in all seven provinces and in Kathmandu to resolve possible disruptions. <\/p>\n
These statistics indicate that Nepal is becoming self-reliant in the electricity sector due to the expansion of generation capacity, the participation of the private sector and improvement in the transmission system in recent years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
