Kathmandu. The movie ‘Gaunthali’, which is going to be released from July 1, is now in the promotional phase. Lead actor Arun Chhetri is currently busy promoting the film. For Chhetri, who has been active in acting for almost a decade, ‘Gaunthali’ has become not just another film, but the most difficult and responsible project of his acting journey. <\/p>\n
Chhetri says that he got inspiration for his acting journey from veteran actors like late Shree Krishna Shrestha, Rajesh Hamal, Nikhil Upreti and Biraj Bhatta. He says, “My inspiration is a lot of artists. Late Shri Krishna Sir, Rajesh Dai, Nikhil Dai, Biraj Dai. Everyone has been inspired. Initially, I felt the pressure to work with such a successful artist. But they taught me a lot, and then the work became easier. \u2019<\/p>\n
Chhetri, who came from a background of film academy and dance, started his acting career with dance-oriented films. Although ‘Mahapurush’ became his first film to be released, he had acted in two films before that. He is now known as an established artist in the Nepali film industry. <\/p>\n
‘Gaunthali’ is about a young woman’s dreams, her aspirations and how her family and society try to suppress those desires. The film also presents the importance of education, social thinking and attitudes towards people with different abilities. <\/p>\n
In the film, Arun plays the role of a young man with mild autism. He considers this character to be the most challenging role of his career. <\/p>\n
In a conversation with Nepal News Bank, he said, “Simran Khadka has done a good performance in ‘Gaunthali’. In the film, a daughter’s dream and daughter’s desire are suppressed from home. There is also the matter of education. The film also shows what society looks like from the point of view of people with different perspectives. \u2019<\/p>\n
He also said that his character and role is difficult. “My role was very difficult. He was also sensitive. It was very challenging to understand and play a character with autism. Although it was difficult in the beginning, it became the most enjoyable character. \u2019<\/p>\n
According to him, in the beginning, there was a belief that all people with autism would behave the same. But after research and direct observation, that thinking has completely changed, he says. <\/p>\n
Chhetri had made a long preparation for the character. He spent time with children and adults with autism, studied their behaviour closely, and conducted extensive research. <\/p>\n
In the first two days of shooting, Chhetri was more focused on body language than dialogue, but after about a week, he was completely caught by the character. After that, he said that acting was very easy and fun. <\/p>\n
According to Chhetri, ‘Gaunthali’ asks the audience a serious question, “We call ourselves normal, but are we really normal?” <\/p>\n
He says that the character he plays in the film is selfless, honest and very responsible towards relationships. “We filter a lot of things. There is one in the mind, another in practice. But this character has a clear mind, he expresses what he feels. It was this sincerity that attracted me to this character,” he said. <\/p>\n
According to him, if such a sensitive character was misrepresented, there was a risk of injustice to the community concerned. That is why he has played the character with great responsibility. <\/p>\n
Chhetri considers cinema as an effective medium for social change along with entertainment. According to him, cinema should not only entertain the society but also bear the responsibility of changing the mindset. <\/p>\n
“The stories of every community should be portrayed on the screen. The more films are made on different subjects, the faster the positive changes will come in the society,” he said. <\/p>\n
He also said that films have played a big role in changing society’s perception towards the LGBTQ community, people with different abilities or animals. <\/p>\n
Arun Chhetri says that the Nepali film industry is now much stronger than in the past. According to him, films are now being made based on good technology, skilled technicians and quality stories. <\/p>\n
Urging the audience to watch ‘Gaunthali’, he said that the movie will give a deep message about society, family, education and human relationships along with entertainment. <\/p>\n
“This movie makes me think a lot of things. It also inspires us to laugh, to be emotional and to learn. So, from July 1, go to the nearest hall and see ‘Swallows’,” he said. <\/p>\n
