Kathmandu. Nepali Congress lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC has demanded that the report of the National Human Rights Commission be made public at the earliest. <\/p>\n
Speaking in the ‘zero hour’ of the House of Representatives on Thursday, KC said that the National Human Rights Commission was not only a constitutional body but an important structure linked with the world human rights system. <\/p>\n
The NHRC has been working collaboratively with the United Nations Human Rights System and international human rights organisations to inform the world about the situation of human rights in Nepal, he said. <\/p>\n
“The National Human Rights Commission is not only a constitutional institution but it is an important structure linked to the global human rights system. It works with the United Nations Human Rights and International Human Rights Organizations to inform the world community about the situation of human rights in Nepal. \u2019<\/p>\n
“Ignoring the report and recommendations of the NHRC is not only a disrespect of the NHRC but also a question on the credibility and commitment of the international community,” he said. <\/p>\n
“Ignoring the report and recommendations of the NHRC is not only an undermining and contempt of the NHRC. This is an international commitment and credibility. It is a mockery of the rule of law and the image of democracy,” he said. <\/p>\n
Lawmaker KC said that only 13 per cent of the recommendations of the commission have been implemented so far, adding that it was regrettable that the report of the commission member Lily Thapa has not been made public yet. <\/p>\n
“According to the commission’s chairman, only 13 per cent of the suggestions have been implemented. Therefore, it is not only sad but regrettable that the report of the commission’s member, Honorable Lily Thapa, has not been made public yet. Let the report be made public as soon as possible, make it available to the honorable members and initiate legal action immediately. \u2019<\/p>\n
