Kathmandu. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the US Treasury Department’s decision to lift a temporary ban on Iranian oil exports. In a statement on Wednesday, the US ministry said the move violated clause 10 of the “Memorandum of Understanding on the Cessation of Hostilities”, signed on June 18, 2026. <\/p>\n
Iran has warned that the US government will be responsible for the consequences of this “betrayal”. The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control on Tuesday revoked a license to sell Iranian oil. <\/p>\n
Earlier, the US had given exemption to sell Iranian oil until August 21. According to the new law, previously permitted transactions have been ordered to shut down completely by July 17. <\/p>\n
Bradley Smith, director of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), signed the new license on Tuesday. The United States has accused Iran of attacking three oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz. <\/p>\n
With the lifting of sanctions, the US military has responded to the Iranian attack by launching powerful military strikes in various parts of Iran. The US has claimed that these actions were taken in response to Iran’s alleged attack. <\/p>\n
Iran has strongly objected to the US withdrawal of its decision less than 20 days after the signing of the Islamabad Accords. Iran’s foreign ministry said the move had “re-exposed its bad intentions, instability and unreliability”. <\/p>\n
The ministry also claimed that the US has repeatedly violated various provisions of the agreement. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs Kazem Garibabadi wrote on X that the US action violated Article 10 of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and that the military operation against Iran “seriously violated Articles 1 and 2.” <\/p>\n
Iran has warned that it will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and security.
