Kathmandu. Tehran: A huge mourning procession has erupted in Tehran for the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei’s body was placed in a coffin covered with the national flag and taken by truck along with family members to Tehran’s main road to Mehrabad International Airport, according to state media. <\/p>\n
He was killed on February 28 in an airstrike in the early stages of the war between Israel and the United States. According to state media, a rally has already begun and a large number of citizens have taken part in a show of public support for the government. <\/p>\n
Special restrictions have been imposed on roads, airspace and public activities in view of the mourning period. The national mourning that began on Saturday will continue until Thursday. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the US has been pressing for the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, curbing Iran’s disputed nuclear program and a permanent end to the war, but there are indications that the talks will remain on hold until the funeral is completed. <\/p>\n
