Kathmandu. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Sunil Lamsal has clarified that less budget has been allocated for infrastructure projects including roads and bridges. <\/p>\n

Responding to the queries raised by lawmakers in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Lamsal said that the government has given priority to the multi-year budget system instead of single year. <\/p>\n

According to him, the multi-year budget has set a target to reduce the time taken for the contract process by implementing projects of similar nature in an integrated manner. According to him, although it usually takes 6-7 months to call for a contract, the time taken up to three years can be reduced to 6-7 months if the same type of program is taken simultaneously. <\/p>\n

“We have received complaints that less budget has been allocated for roads, bridges, etc. We did not make the current budget this single year budget. We had prepared a three-year multi-year budget. The reason why we made a multi-year budget is that it now takes about 6 to 7 months to open a tender. That’s because maybe there hasn’t been clearance, there’s not a DPR. <\/p>\n

If we open a tender for programs of the same nature at the same time and open tenders in different years, the difference is that when we open a tender at the same time, the time taken for 18 to 21 months in three years can be reduced to 6 to 7 months. And we save 12 to 14 months of working time. \u2019<\/p>\n

Minister Lamsal said that additional 12-14 months could be used for construction work as the time saved. He said that the budget seems to be allocated to many projects as many programs of similar nature have been included in the multi-year format. <\/p>\n

He said, “When we focus on the programs of the next three years by making the programs of Similar Nature a single program, we have seen that we have a small budget and many programs.” But now our budget is 286 billion, but we are now aiming to open tenders worth about Rs 10 trillion this year. \u2019<\/p>\n

According to him, the Ministry has set a target of inviting contracts worth Rs 1000 billion for the current fiscal year although the budget is Rs 286 billion. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
