Kathmandu. Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has said that the government has allocated Rs 218.30 billion for the education and sports sector for the coming fiscal year 2083\/84. <\/p>\n
Responding to the queries raised in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Pokharel said that the budget was 10.28 percent of the total national budget of Rs 2.124 trillion. <\/p>\n
According to him, although the budget of education sector has decreased by 0.47 percent compared to the current fiscal year, it has increased by around Rs 7 billion in terms of amount. He said that this would make it clear that the education sector was in the priority of the government. <\/p>\n
“Out of the total national budget for the fiscal year 2083\/84, Rs 218.30 billion has been allocated to the education and sports sector. This is 10.28 percent of the total national budget. According to this, this budget is 0.47 percent less than the current fiscal year, but in terms of results, the proposed budget has increased by 7 billion compared to the current fiscal year. This budget shows that the education sector is in the priority of the government,” he said. <\/p>\n
Minister Pokharel shared that 69.07 per cent of the total budget for education and sports has been transferred to the local level. <\/p>\n
According to him, a large chunk of the budget has been allocated to the local level as most of the programmes related to school education are implemented from the local level. Similarly, 2.12 percent of the budget has been handed over to the provinces. <\/p>\n
He said, “A large chunk of the budget of the education and sports sector is spent on school education and the local level is responsible for the implementation of school education activities, so 69.07 percent of the total budget of this sector has been transferred to the local level.” Similarly, 2.12 percent financial transfer has been made at the provincial level. \u2019<\/p>\n
According to him, out of the total budget of education and sports, Rs 150.58 billion or 68.98 per cent will be spent on salary and pension. <\/p>\n
The highest amount of 69.49 per cent of the budget has been allocated to school education. Similarly, 11.04 per cent of the budget has been allocated for higher education, 2.56 per cent for technical and vocational education and training and 15.17 per cent for management. <\/p>\n
Minister Pokharel said that the government has also given priority to the construction of school buildings for the development of physical infrastructure. According to him, a budget of Rs 2.75 million to Rs 6.5 million has been allocated for local level schools except 14 districts affected by the Gorkha earthquake and 19 districts of western Nepal including Bajhang, Jajarkot, Rukum West, Manang and Mustang. <\/p>\n
“All the local level schools except 14 districts affected by the Gorkha earthquake and 19 districts of western Bajhang, Jajarkot and Rukum West and Manang and Mustang have been allocated for the physical construction of the local level partnership school on the basis of the master plan of Rs 2.75 billion to Rs 6.5 million,” he said. <\/p>\n
Minister Pokharel said that Rs 2.37 billion has been allocated for the construction of physical infrastructure and improvement of the school in partnership with the local level on the basis of master plan.
