Students unions have announced a protest against the incident of destruction of mobile phones and smart watches confiscated from the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and Grade 12 examination centres in Siraha. <\/p>\n<p>According to a notice made public through social media, the demonstration will be held in front of the District Administration Office, Siraha, at 12 noon on Monday. All students have been invited to join the protest. <\/p>\n<p>The slogan of the publicity paper released in the name of United Students&#8217; Union has been included in the slogan &#8216;Compensation to the students&#8217;. <\/p>\n<p>The demonstration is aimed at pressuring the government to provide proper compensation for mobile phones, end the oppression on students and ensure justice for the aggrieved students. ANNFSU Madhesh Province Coordinator Satish Chandra Singh said, &#8220;The purpose of the demonstration is to draw the attention of the bodies concerned and to exert pressure to address the demands of the students.&#8221; \u2019<\/p>\n<p>The District Administration Office, Siraha, had destroyed around 500 mobile phones and smart watches seized from the students during the SEE and Class 12 examinations held last April. The administration has said that this step has been taken to maintain the dignity of the examination and prevent the misuse of such equipment in the future. <\/p>\n<p>According to the administration, seven iPhones, 489 Android mobile phones of different companies and five smartwatches were confiscated during the examination. All these equipment were destroyed recently and the estimated market value of the recovered materials is more than one crore rupees. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the then education minister of Madhesh Province, Rani Sharma Tiwari, had warned of stern action if mobile phones were found used in the examination. Based on this, the District Examination Coordination Committee, Siraha, formed a separate sub-committee for the management of mobile phones and decided to destroy the seized equipment. <\/p>\n<p>The mobile phones and smartwatches recovered from the examinees were immersed in a drum filled with water. <\/p>\n<p>The five-member committee was formed under the leadership of Rajdev Yadav, Examination Section Officer of Education Development and Coordination Unit, Siraha, with representatives from District Administration Office, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department. According to the committee, the mobile phones were smashed and destroyed after being immersed in water for 24 hours at the premises of the District Police Office. <\/p>\n<p>According to Yadav, the decision was made to destroy the mobile phones by making them unusable.
