Kathmandu. Kathmandu, Feb. 13: The Metropolitan Transport Pvt Ltd has launched 16 new electric buses in its service. The buses are expected to make public transport more modern and environment-friendly, which will come into operation on the Ring Road of Kathmandu Valley from Wednesday. <\/p>\n
The new 33-seater electric buses have been designed to make it comfortable for standing passengers. These buses have the capacity to carry up to 70 passengers at a time. The buses are considered to be comfortable due to comfortable seating arrangements, modern system of passenger safety and well-managed infrastructure. <\/p>\n
The buses imported from China are fitted with a 144 KW CATL battery. Once fully charged, these buses have the capacity to cover a distance of about 200 km. The price of each bus is Rs 1.31 crore. <\/p>\n
Speaking at the launch program, Keshav Nepal, Secretary of KMC Yatayat Pvt Ltd, said that the alternative to electric vehicles has become a necessity. He said although the initial investment was high, the electric bus was commercially viable and it was found to be effective in terms of income. He also suggested that other transport entrepreneurs should also be attracted towards electric vehicles. He also demanded that the government should make arrangement of discount on the operation of electric vehicles due to the tax levied on the consumption of more than 50 units of electricity. <\/p>\n
Similarly, Dharma Raj Rimal, a member of the board of directors of KMC Yatayat Pvt Ltd, said that 12 electric buses have been successfully operated before this and the number of buses has been added in the last phase. <\/p>\n
According to him, the electric bus is earning four times more than that of diesel buses due to low cost and technical simplicity. He also added that the collaboration has been carried out continuously as the after-sales service of Shashila Motors is effective and reliable. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, managing director of Shashila Motors Santosh Khatiwada said that promotion of large size electric buses was the need of the hour. “These buses will be important not only for the convenience of businessmen and passengers, but also for improving the transport system of the country,” he said. The company has been working with a goal to establish commercial electric vehicles in Nepal and priority has been given to the service system after the sale. <\/p>\n
Metropolis Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. has been providing services to more than 140 vehicles in and out of Kathmandu Valley. The company has been operating 52 electric vehicles including 28 city buses and 24 microbuses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
