Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has expressed serious concern over Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s views on the Nepal-India border in the House of Representatives. <\/p>\n
Issuing a press release today, NC Spokesperson Prakash Jwala termed the remarks made by the Prime Minister as irresponsible, against national sovereignty and territorial integrity and against the established historical facts. <\/p>\n
Stating that cross-holding of land in the border areas are different matters between the encroachment of the international border, the statement clarified that any act of encroaching, constructing structures or expanding the border on the territory owned by another country is considered as encroachment. <\/p>\n
Claiming that India has been unilaterally encroaching on Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura areas, the party said it was a serious betrayal of the nation to say that Nepal has also encroached upon Indian territory. <\/p>\n
The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has said that the Nepal-India border line determined on the basis of the Sugauli Treaty and the old border pillars can be used to encroach on both sides of the bordering land. The party argues that such a situation should be considered only as a situation of land ownership. <\/p>\n
“The party is clear that there are border disputes between Nepal and India and it should be resolved through diplomatic channel. However, the party has said that Nepal’s claim will be maintained only on the basis of the fact that it has not occupied any Indian territory so far. It is on this basis that a new political and administrative map of Nepal has been issued including Limpiyadhura area. <\/p>\n
The party has also raised the issue that India has not yet made public the report of the Eminent Persons’ Group (EPG) formed to resolve the border dispute. The CPN has concluded that the statement made by the Prime Minister in such a sensitive situation is a serious injury to nationality, independence and territorial integrity. <\/p>\n
The NCP has also demanded the government to immediately correct the PM’s statement, remove it from the parliament record and forge national consensus on matters of national interest and initiate diplomatic dialogue with India based on facts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
