Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that safeguarding democratic republic is the safeguard of the future of the country and people. <\/p>\n
Issuing a message of best wishes through the social media today, PM Oli said the republic was a result of seven decades long struggle, sacrifice and sacrifice of the Nepali people. <\/p>\n
Recalling that the republic was declared 18 years ago by the Constituent Assembly elected by the Nepali people, he recalled that thousands of Nepali seniors sacrificed their lives to secure the freedom to speak, write, organise and express political views. <\/p>\n
Stating that a democratic system governed by law has been established after the end of dictatorial rule, PM Oli opined that the achievements made through people’s sacrifices should be protected. Paying tribute to the martyrs and former heroes, he stressed the need of the hour to strengthen democratic institutions. <\/p>\n
He added that the republic was not only a change in the governance system but also a deep change in the consciousness of the Nepali society. <\/p>\n
“It was not only a matter of change in the republican governance system, it was also a deep change in the consciousness of the Nepali society. The society, which had lived as ‘subjects’ for centuries, was transformed into a sovereign citizen through a constitution made by itself. It will take a long time to mature in the changing practices, and we have experienced the same,” he said. <\/p>\n
According to him, expansion of state’s access to local levels, increase in representation of women, Dalit, Janajatis, Madhesi and backward communities, freedom of expression, digital service access, roads and communications expansion are the important achievements of the republic in the country. <\/p>\n
He, however, admitted that the pace of change was not as fast as expected and that a legitimate solution to the discontent was possible only within the republican system. <\/p>\n
“It hasn’t been as fast as we’d like,” he said. Such a pace depends on social consciousness. There may be dissatisfaction with the system if it does not change as fast as it would like, but a republican system is also needed to legitimately address those discontents. \u2019<\/p>\n
Cautioning against the tendency of spreading mistrust in democratic institutions by using people’s disappointment, he said the protection of the constitution, parliament, judiciary and free press is the safeguard of the republic. <\/p>\n
Stating that the future of the society and people would be insecure if the democratic institutions were weakened, he pointed out the need for all to unite in protecting the organs of the democratic republic. <\/p>\n
“If these institutions of democracy are weak, no society will be strong and the people will not be happy. Therefore, to protect these organs of a democratic republic is to protect the future of all of us,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
