Kathmandu. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has indicted then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung for their involvement in suppression of the Genji movement. <\/p>\n
The report on the Genji movement prepared by the commission has concluded that they have violated human rights. <\/p>\n
“There is no provision in any law currently in place to punish them for human rights violations,” the report said. <\/p>\n
According to the report, the Supreme Court has already submitted a principle report that the offence of humanity and human rights can be punished by making a retrospective law. <\/p>\n
“We need to enact a new law to prosecute and punish them. Therefore, a new law should be formulated accordingly and action should be taken against all the three mentioned above in accordance with the same law. \u2019<\/p>\n
The report has also recommended what provisions should be included in the law. A maximum of 6 months imprisonment or a fine of up to Rs 300,000 or both has been suggested. <\/p>\n
Likewise, the committee has also recommended making provisions barring candidates from holding any post for political appointment or election for at least five years, banning administrative responsibilities for at least three years and prohibiting foreign travel for at least three years. <\/p>\n
