Kathmandu. After the government removed the squatters’ settlement at Thapathali, the area on the banks of the Bagmati River has become open and wide. The change in the form of the area has been seen after the removal of tents and temporary structures that had been living unsystematically for many years. <\/p>\n

The river banks are seen clean, systematic and open after the evacuation campaign launched with the objective of expanding the Bagmati corridor and conserving the riverbank. The area that was once thick, narrow and full of garbage has now looked like an open field. <\/p>\n

The Thapathali area is considered an important part of the Bagmati Corridor. Encroachment on the river banks has been causing problems in the management of floods and waste every year. The removal of the settlements is expected to enhance the beauty of the corridor area and facilitate the river clean-up campaign. <\/p>\n

However, with the removal of settlements, the management of the displaced families has become challenging. They have demanded that the arrangement of alternative accommodation should be expedited as they have been evicted from the place they have been living in for years. <\/p>\n

Human rights activists and rights organizations have said that a clear plan for rehabilitation is needed to remove the settlements. According to them, the basic housing rights of the citizens should also be given priority along with the development works. <\/p>\n

The metropolis has said that the campaign is necessary for the conservation of public land, management of river banks and improvement of urban beautification. It is stated that the corridor area would be made more systematic and greenery, footpaths and public utility structures would be constructed in the coming days. <\/p>\n

The scene of the area has completely changed after the removal of the settlement of Thapathali squatters. The river banks, which used to look unorganized and crowded, are now seen open, clean and orderly. <\/p>\n
