Kathmandu. Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has said that the infrastructure assessment of schools across the country has been started to make the investment in community schools more systematic and more scientific. <\/p>\n
Speaking at a public hearing program organized in Kathmandu Constituency No. 4 on Sunday, Minister Pokharel said that the infrastructure assessment of schools across the country has been started to make the investment in community schools more systematic and scientific. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Minister Pokharel admitted that although the state was investing in 27,000 community schools across the country, there was no uniformity in the results. <\/p>\n
“Some schools are overresourced and some schools are deprived of basic facilities. Now we invest on the basis of real needs, not on the basis of access. \u2019<\/p>\n
The Ministry has been carrying out a detailed study of the physical condition of all the schools, furniture, smartboard, vacancy and number of students, and a master plan would be prepared on the basis of the report, he said. <\/p>\n
Minister Pokharel described the process of appointing vice-chancellors in eight universities including Tribhuvan University as a campaign to free the university from partisan division. <\/p>\n
“We want to make the university academic and professional. Our decision to elect the vice-chancellor through open competition has added new enthusiasm to the academic sector and we have received positive support from the staff and professors,” he said. <\/p>\n
Minister Pokharel shared that the school curriculum from class 1 to 12 was being restructured to make the school curriculum practical and sports would be included as a compulsory component in it. <\/p>\n
He also said that a plan has been put forward to establish separate autism schools in all seven provinces for students with autism and to make the existing community schools ‘inclusive’. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Minister Pokharel expressed serious concern over the issue of admission fee and fees being charged under other headings in community and private schools. <\/p>\n
“It is illegal to charge more than the legal stipulation. “We are coordinating with the mayors of metropolis and sub-metropolis as it is the responsibility of monitoring and regulation of the project lies with the local level,” he said. <\/p>\n
In the public hearing, Minister Pokharel claimed that the Ministry has operated ‘Haltline’ service to address the complaints of the citizens and has resolved the problems within its jurisdiction. <\/p>\n
