Kathmandu. An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the city of Liuzhou in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday morning. <\/p>\n
According to local administration, 13 buildings collapsed and more than 7,000 people had been evacuated to safer places. <\/p>\n
Three people have gone missing in the earthquake while four others are undergoing treatment at the hospital. <\/p>\n
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the quake struck at 12:21 a.m. local time with its epicenter in Liunan district. <\/p>\n
The depth of the quake was eight kilometers. Five aftershocks ranging from 2.2 to 3.2 on the Richter scale were felt before and after the main quake. <\/p>\n
Emergency services, police and fire engines have been mobilized for the rescue and search operation. The Guangxi Regional Earthquake Rescue Headquarters declared a Level 3 emergency response at 2:00 a.m. <\/p>\n
The Ministry of Emergency Management and Earthquake Rescue Headquarters of the State Council of China also activated the Level 4 emergency response and sent a task force to the affected areas. The worst damage was reported in Sangdeng village of Taiyangchun Township in Liunan District. <\/p>\n
Some of the buildings have turned into complete ruins. It is feared that the three missing are trapped inside the collapsed structure. <\/p>\n
Following the quake, the Guangxi provincial government and the Liuzhou Metropolitan City jointly deployed a multi-agency emergency mechanism. <\/p>\n
Police, fire brigade, transport, natural resources, electricity and drinking water bodies have been involved in the rescue operation. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, landslides occurred on the Liuzhou Beltway road section passing through the Taiyangchun region. Vehicles have been directed to use alternative routes after landslides disrupted the road.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
