Kathmandu. Afghanistan’s malnutrition crisis is worsening as tensions with Pakistan and the Iran war disrupt supply chains. The United Nations says that if adequate resources and easy transportation were possible, an additional 1 million children at risk of malnutrition could be supported. <\/p>\n
According to a senior official of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the current conflict, border blockades and rising costs have severely affected the delivery of humanitarian aid. In recent months, Afghanistan has been grappling with earthquakes, climate-related disasters and an influx of people returning from neighbouring countries. This has exacerbated food insecurity and health crises. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the border has been almost completely closed for nearly eight months due to the conflict with Pakistan. This has caused major disruption to the supply of food, medicine and fuel. The global economic impact of the ongoing war in Iran has also complicated the situation. <\/p>\n
The WFP said the shipment of humanitarian aid was being delayed due to rising food and fuel prices and disruptions in supply chains. The WFP said it was also struggling to secure funding.
