Kathmandu. Nepal Press Union (NPU) has announced to organize a nationwide interaction programme against the government’s decision to ban the publication of government advertisements in private media. <\/p>\n
In a circular issued by NPU General Secretary Dilip Poudel, Nepal Press Union (NPU) has directed all the province, district branches and branches of the Nepal Press Union (NPU) to submit a report on the impact of the government advertisement on private media within 7 days. <\/p>\n
As per the directive recently issued by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, all types of government advertisements, information and information related to public procurement should be published and disseminated only through the government-owned media. <\/p>\n
According to NPU General Secretary Dilip Poudel, the decision will lead to a serious economic crisis in the private and independent media, job losses, closure of media houses and reduction in the multiplicity of information. <\/p>\n
The Union has directed all district branches, academy branches and provincial committees across the country to organize interaction programs. Media owners, editors, journalists, advertising agencies, legal experts and media experts will participate in the program. It has also requested the government to send the report along with conclusions, suggestions and recommendations received from the discussion to the central office by April 13, 2082. <\/p>\n
President of Nepal Press Union Shiva Lamsal said that the government’s decision would have a direct impact on press freedom and freedom of expression. <\/p>\n
The Union has demanded that the government make transparent advertisement distribution system, maintain austerity and make policy provisions to include private media as well.
