Kathmandu. Cambodia \u2013 7 Nepalis who were forced to work in online fraud and casinos in Cambodia have been rescued. They were rescued at the initiative of the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand and with the support of the Cambodian government. <\/p>\n
They had departed from Cambodia on April 5 and landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on April 7 with the facilitation of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Cambodia. They arrived in Cambodia as traffickers and were forced to work illegally in online scamming centres and casinos. <\/p>\n
Some were hiding without visas. The embassy has said that efforts are continuously underway to bring back other Nepalis who are stranded or in difficult situation. The embassy has received information that a large number of Nepali nationals in Cambodia are still engaged in illegal activities, including online fraud, and are staying in Cambodia even after their visas have expired. <\/p>\n
The embassy has urged the Nepalis who are in a difficult situation and want to return to Nepal to contact immediately for facilitation. Those who have been stranded can contact the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok or the representatives of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Cambodia Shivaraj Parajuli, Lal Singh Khadka and Ramji Kumar Chhetri. <\/p>\n
There have been complaints that the passports of those employed in scamming centers are confiscated by the employer company or they are lost while shifting them from one place to another. In such a situation, the Embassy has made arrangements to issue one-way travel documents free of charge to those who want to return to Nepal. The entire process regarding this is available on the Embassy website as well. <\/p>\n
The number of Nepalis arriving in Cambodia on the pretext of visit visa has increased dramatically in recent period. According to tourism statistics of Cambodia, a total of 101 Nepalese visited Cambodia in 2021 on visit visa and this number is increasing every year. The number of Nepalis who visited Cambodia in 2022 had increased to 9,676 in 2025 from 2,940 in 2023 and 6,404 in 2024. <\/p>\n
The Embassy has issued a warning after the number of people falling into the trap of human smugglers by going on visit visa. KATHMANDU: The Nepali Embassy has warned all citizens to go for foreign employment only after obtaining work permit as per the criteria set by the Government of Nepal. The embassy has appealed to the people not to travel to countries like Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand in search of employment in the pretext of their travels. <\/p>\n
