The &#8216;Social Media Bill-2081&#8217; tabled by the Oli government has been withdrawn from the National Assembly. A meeting of the National Assembly on Monday unanimously endorsed the decision to withdraw the bill. <\/p>\n<p>NA chair Narayan Dahal had tabled the bill for a decision in the meeting. Earlier, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Sinha had presented a proposal on behalf of the Prime Minister seeking withdrawal of the bill. <\/p>\n<p>The then KP Sharma Oli-led government had registered the bill in the National Assembly on February 10 last year. The then Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung had forwarded the bill to prepare a legal basis for effective regulation and control the misuse of social media. <\/p>\n<p>The bill incorporates provisions for maintaining social harmony, cultural tolerance and good governance, hate speech, defamation, trolls, fake and misleading information, fine and jail time. <\/p>\n<p>This meeting also passed the Tourism Bill, 2081. The meeting also passed a condolence motion on the demise of former National Assembly member Shukra Raj Sanyok.
