Kathmandu. The government is preparing to implement the concept of ‘Book Free Friday’ and ‘Skill in Education’ across the country from the next academic session with the objective of making school education practical and skill-oriented. <\/p>\n
Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel said this at a programme organized in different schools of Siraha and Saptari on Saturday to collect suggestions from the stakeholders for revision of the National Curriculum Framework-2076 BS. <\/p>\n
He said that the government has set a target to implement ‘Book Free Friday’ and ‘Skill in Education’ programme from the upcoming academic session to connect students with practical knowledge, skills and useful education. <\/p>\n
According to Minister Pokharel, the national curriculum framework of school education is being revised keeping in mind the changing times, technology development and employment needs. A task force is being formed for this and suggestions are being collected from students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders across the country. <\/p>\n
“The new curriculum will be prepared on the basis of suggestions received from students, teachers and other stakeholders,” he said. He said that the process of printing textbooks will be started accordingly after the new curriculum is prepared. <\/p>\n
Saying the existing curriculum has not been able to impart practical and practical education as per the needs of the new generation, Minister Pokharel said the new curriculum would be prepared keeping the needs of the new generation and future at the centre. <\/p>\n
He further said that the overall education reform programmes would be carried out in an effective manner along with the revision of the curriculum through coordination and facilitation among the federal, state and local levels. <\/p>\n
Chief Advisor to the Education Minister Shailendra Jha said that suggestions from students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders are being collected at the community level to make the national curriculum framework implementation-oriented. He said that education should be made timely, practical, technology-friendly and useful for life. <\/p>\n
Executive Director of the Curriculum Development Center, Mahendra Parajuli, said that the task force formed to revise the national curriculum framework is working on it. He said that the new curriculum will be implemented effectively by making necessary amendments based on the suggestions received. <\/p>\n
Emphasis on practical and employment-oriented education<\/strong><\/p>\n }<\/p>\n Workshops conducted in all seven provinces for revising the national curriculum framework have suggested making school education practical, skill-oriented, technology-friendly and employment-oriented. <\/p>\n Participants of the workshop suggested incorporating AI, information technology, moral education, life skills and technical and vocational education in the curriculum. <\/p>\n The participants stressed on the need of designing the curriculum in such a way that students would not only be proficient in the use of technology but also develop the capacity to develop technology. <\/p>\n Emphasis should be given on effective implementation of curriculum rather than changing the curriculum frequently in Koshi Province and the new curriculum could not be implemented effectively without adequate teacher management. <\/p>\n Moral and Sanskrit education, AI and computer technology, climate change, ‘green school’, technical education and cyber security should be included in the school curriculum. <\/p>\n The participants of Bagmati Province have suggested that priority should be given to oriental philosophy, Sanskrit and moral education, local knowledge, skills and culture, as well as ‘community curriculum’ and ‘nature learning’. Gandaki Province has suggested that the curriculum should be made scientific and practical, skill-based education should be given priority and the assessment system should be made disabled-friendly. <\/p>\n The participants of the Far-Western Province have suggested that the working hours should be reduced, human values education should be given priority and the gap in the subject matter between classes 10 and 11 should be reduced. In Karnali Province, it has been suggested that the curriculum should be revised accordingly by projecting the manpower required in the next 15 to 20 years. <\/p>\n In the first phase, the Curriculum Development Center has been collecting suggestions from 28 districts of seven provinces by interacting with students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders.
