Kathmandu. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam has said that during the Jenji movement, the youths have come to the streets demanding good governance and not for change of power or snatching anyone’s chair. <\/p>\n
Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of Jenji Martyrs Memorial Day here today, Minister Gautam said that the incident of September 23 should not be seen in the same way with the incident that took place on September 24. <\/p>\n
She said, “I remembered this day i.e. exactly one year ago. At that time, the government leading the country was shutting down social media and making the people more and more difficult. At that time, there was a kind of anger among the people. \u2019<\/p>\n
She said that at that time, they were questioning the government from inside the parliament building and some friends were protesting from the streets. She said that as a people’s representative who was elected from the 2079 BS election and reached the parliament, she was expressing her voice through the parliament. <\/p>\n
Gautam said that she had seen the information that the agitation would be held on September 23 and that the youths had made a clear request to make the movement non-partisan. She recalled that they had asked the political parties not to give any color to the agitation and not to insert their political agenda. <\/p>\n
Gautam also said that she is of the opinion that the Jenji movement should be taken as a citizens’ movement. She said that she was of the opinion that she should leave the movement as a citizens’ movement instead of participating in the movement which was asked not to give the color of the party as a person who was elected from the party. <\/p>\n
She recalled that there were some sporadic protests in Nepal even before September 23. She said that the agitation in Tinkune on March 29 was also a movement raised by the citizens and people fell due to gunfire. <\/p>\n
“Just as the youths came out on the streets with the voice of good governance, no one thought that their children would lose their lives by going to the movement,” she said. “No one had imagined that they would die in this movement.” \u2019<\/p>\n
She said that the movement demanding good governance was not a movement to die. She said that although there have been repeated movements in Nepal for political rights and democracy, the youths have come to the streets with confidence that after the attainment of democracy, the citizens will be able to express their voice. <\/p>\n
“When the youth were raising their voice in favour of good governance, the bullets were fired. That day for the first time, I realized that there is firing in democracy too,” she said. <\/p>\n
On the occasion of the completion of one year of the Zenji movement, Gautam said that the state and society should support the families of the martyrs. <\/p>\n
“A person is born, after being born, one day everyone has to leave the earth. It is only a matter of sooner or later. But those who became martyrs, became immortal. Not all people get that privilege of being immortal,” she said. <\/p>\n
She said that although different people have different views and opinions about the incident after the Genji movement, the incidents of September 23 and 24 should not be viewed with the same eye. <\/p>\n
According to him, the youths had taken to the streets on September 23 not to snatch anyone’s chair but to convey their voice to the government and with the belief that the government would listen to their demands. <\/p>\n
“September 23 is the day when the trust of the people has been betrayed. Therefore, we should not look at the 23rd and the 24th with the same eyes. On the 23rd, our youths were killed, killed, shot,” she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
