KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Cho Hyun held important discussions on the ongoing search, rescue and relief operations in the aftermath of the recent devastating Bhotekoshi floods in Nepal. <\/p>\n
During the bilateral meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar on Sunday, serious discussions were held regarding the search and rescue of the citizens of Republic of Korea who went missing following the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Foreign Minister Khanal expressed his gratitude to the Government of Korea for sending an inter-agency rapid response team and Korea Disaster Relief Team to assist in search and rescue operations in flood-affected areas. <\/p>\n
He also expressed gratitude for the humanitarian assistance and relief materials provided by the Government of South Korea to the flood-affected people. <\/p>\n
Stating that the government of Nepal has given high priority to the post-disaster reconstruction, Minister Khanal said that the reconstruction would be carried out in accordance with the ‘Build Back Better’ concept and sustainable and safe infrastructure construction with less damage from such disasters in the future. He expressed the belief that there would be continuous support from the Republic of Korea in this regard. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Chloe Hyun expressed his government’s willingness to provide necessary support for Nepal’s post-disaster reconstruction efforts in Nepal. <\/p>\n
Stating that the international community had historic responsibility towards the loss of life, property and infrastructure suffered by countries like Nepal due to the climate change, Choe Hyun stressed that Nepal and the Republic of Korea should collaborate together to make the world community more sensitive about the impact of climate change and the disasters caused by it. <\/p>\n
He was of the view that countries like Nepal should jointly raise voice about the challenges and losses faced by countries like Nepal in international forums including the United Nations Climate Change Conference. <\/p>\n
The Republic of Korea also pledged to raise voice on behalf of the international community regarding the financial support that Nepal should get from the international community for the damage caused by climate change. <\/p>\n
The two Foreign Ministers expressed their commitment to continue close cooperation to take Nepal-Korea relations to a new height by further consolidating and broadening long-standing friendly relations, mutual trust, understanding and cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
